Mapping the Studio (2015-present)
This is an ongoing project to document the perimeter of each shared studio in which I work, one drawing at a time. Each series belongs to a separate studio. The work begins when I first move into a space, and ends either when I move out or after I have mapped every section of wall-baseboard-floor in pastel.
I'm interested in empty spaces that are both ubiquitous and overlooked. By methodically depicting these interior landscapes, I create a map of each space as well as a visible record of time spent there. The residue left behind in these spaces holds the memory of past presence, in the absence of figures and objects.
